What the hell is a flying green song-rabbit?!

Grongbit (GReen sONG rabBIT) is the result of our nicknames combined. "Our" meaning the three founding authors. The flying comes from our guest-turned-permanent blogger, Butterfly Coffin.

And yes, rabbits can too fly, sing and be green.

Through the Grapevine

So I am sure most of you should have heard by now that I recently got an internship. Nothing too flashy, just paperwork and research and analysing data. I am hoping that this will amount to something, but also worried because I've heard through the grapevine that this agency is a bit of a slave driver. Le sigh.

Well, work is what it is. I guess Mad Men is a pretty accurate representation of the advertising industry.

Life in Motion

For those of you who don't know yet or haven't spoken to me in awhile, I recently started to polish off my CV because next semester I am doing an internship course that requires me to find my own host organisation to work at.

I emailed the coordinators to get all the info, chatted to uni friends and basically mused about it for awhile until I got the green light. I then sent my resume off as soon as I was allowed to and hoped for the best.

There were many confusing things about the internship program, mostly because it wasn't very clear. A friend of mine who already had done 2 internships agreed that at first she was very confused.

But I finally got that sorted (with a lot of help) and did some research on agencies in Sydney. Mostly I was trolling job websites like seek.com and careerone.com. I also checked out my uni's job site but that was mostly pointless and didn't have what I wanted. In the end I decided to approach these companies myself to see if they have any space for me.

So last Wednesday I spent all afternoon typing up a convincing cover letter/email and sent my resume to one of the best, award winning advertising media agencies in Australia. Too late! Already clicked send! I just had to hope that all my research and stalking paid off. The name of this agency had popped up a fair amount of times in my lectures, just in the background.

The following morning for that lecture we watched a video for an award ceremony in France where a few representatives from the best ad agencies attended. Lo and behold, one of the gold winners were from Australia, from the very company I applied for!

A part of me thought that I would be rejected, or that it would be awhile before they contacted me to tell me that I was rejected. I was resigned to that possibility already, but hey it doesn't hurt to try right? After all, I put Fort Street as my first or second choice for selective believing that I most likely wouldn't get in and I almost did.

After the lecture while doing homework in the library I got a call; they wanted to meet me for a position in their subsidiary, newly launched just last year. Wow, I was stoked. I was so excited I was jumping up and down in the library ignoring stares people were giving me. Granted, it was the exact job I wanted but it's within the same company! A GOOD company, an AWARD WINNING company.

Had my interview on Friday and they wanted me to start as soon as possible. It is going to be a long internship, but I already feel successful and I keep dreaming about what my life is going to be like now.

I feel like my life is moving forward instead of falling stagnant.

I also feel terrified; my marks for advertising haven't been extremely good. It's like Advanced English, as much as I love it I was never really good at it. It's strange for me. I'm scared because the ad subject I'm doing this semester isn't going so well, mark-wise. I'm really pissed that my group is dodgy because I thought the hot guy who works at a well-known agency was good at his job, but apparently he's not the most brilliant. Oh he works hard alright, there's just no point to all that research he's done in relation to the brief.

Perhaps I am barking up the wrong tree. Perhaps I shouldn't do advertising and should do PR instead (got 2 distinctions in it). Perhaps it's a sign that for all my core advertising subjects I'm stuck with mediocre people; first year, my partner left the class so the major assignment was done alone, second year my whole group wasn't advertising majors and didn't understand some things I was talking about and now third year, ARGH WHY DIDN'T HE LISTEN TO ME AND USE MY POINTS FOR THE WORK.

On another note, I recently finished reading Animal Farm that Midori lent to me.

This is the exact same copy she had.

Lets just say that I should've read this ages ago. It is good. I've started on 1984 but only a few pages, not as interesting as Animal Farm.

Pho, Pork Knuckle, Guylian Chocolate, KFC.....

Last week was a good week =)

Mr N finally arrived on Monday and we all (minus a few people) went for Pho to "meet" him.

Me, D and Vvn and Ray went to watch Bruno first cuz we're cheap for cheap Tuesday tickets... but it ended being in Gmax so was $12 anyway.

I can't say I enjoyed it on a big big screen....

Oh I would like to announce that I got a job =)

Okay maybe not a great job but I am proud of myself cuz it works with my laziness. I mean my motivation to start small.... >.> It's as a homework helper at James An coaching college. I work 2 hours a week on Monday so get like $30 a week XD. I know horribly little pay, horribly little hours but oh so perfect for me cuz Mondays are my days off! (excluding a lecture that I now plan to skip >.>) and I've been searching for a research assistant job but to no avail =(. But hey this won't interfere with studying at all so it's all good =). Yays!

Went for the interview thingo on Tuesday just before movies/Pho but S was not as excited as I was T_T. Pfft whatever $30 extra a week yay!

Anyway no photos of the disturbing film...

Pho!

MOST people were on time. We went to Pho Pasteur right after movie and N, S and marweechi was already there so I joined them and we ended up all chatting non-stop.

Presenting N in this blurry photo as he picks at his pho with chopsticks for what he feared would be tripe.

Those bits hanging off the edge are tripe he's picked out....

Other people!

More people!

Shu with a face mask on XDD?

Marweechi dying from.... brain freeze??

I had a really good time just catching up and exploring differences between America and Australia. Talking about fruits, pronunciation, prying through wallets, height etc and behold this:

A twinkie!

I realised AFTER I got it that I had eaten this before but marweechi prized it like a new born baby though I can NEVER imagine how that would be >.>

Gobbled it up already XDDD Marweechi have you eaten yours?

I have no photos of myself cuz my sister and brother said I looked like a cowboy and N said I looked like a flight attendant >.> It was for the job interview!

Saturday
I go shopping quite frequently.... but rarely buy anything.... Saturday I set out to actually buy stuff... and came home with... just the right amount =)

Blew away like 1/3 of my week's earnings but it's okay XD. Was gonna take a photo of the mess on my floor but oh well XD

Bought: 2 dresses, a belt, 2 T shirts, 1 button down shirt, 1 pair of shoes, stockings oh wait that's it I think XD see it wasn't much!

I made up for my expenditure by spending the morning doing a heap of laundry -.-.

I was so excited by shopping, cuz I seriously haven't shopped besides on ebay or maybe 1 or 2 things randomly for so long, that I forgot to buy my sister's birthday present!

Sunday

Wee my new floral dress, floral silk and sequin flat shoes and floral lace stockings. Oops I like floral okay >.>

My dad said my dress looked like the apron patterns that working little girls wear in the countryside in China T_T. My sister said my white stockings (without the black stockings under it) looked like my skin was dry and peeling... and well no one said anything bad about my shoes although I thought they were the most controversial... cuz I get shoes dirty easily and these are white! But my only pair of flats broke and I hate looking for flat shoes and these fitted perfectly without making my feet really really ugly!

Yum yum pork knuckle! Didn't take many photos cuz I thought the day belonged more to S's camera and we can wait for her to upload images =)

Me and D eat too much >.> We managed to finish the whole pork knuckle very cleanly =) unlike S and N >.>

D's big 1/2 litre of malt and something or another beer and er my... water >.> N had a whole litre of beer.... while S had 300ml and couldn't finish it XD Beer tastes gross! Bring on the vodka!

Afterwards we walked very slowly to Guylian cafe cuz of the massive amount of people at the Rocks for the Aroma festival. We tried this hand cream/wash thing and it made our hands smell like tiger balm >.> or rather spearmint I think it was. D promises to make me some cream cuz the expensive one they had wasn't worth it =)

We wandered into Guylian cafe and thought there was probably no seats for us but infact there was a really nice seat! Prob BEST seat there! The interior is really cosy but pretty. We went upstairs to sit which was so much more serene with no noisy children -.-

Opera house from our window! I scabbed the best seat with D cuz we're greedy XD

This photo is so pretty =) You can semi see the guys having a wonderful conversation by the looks of D's face >.>

Happy couple!

Drinks arrive! This was Serena's drink but it was bitter I didn't like the coffee =\

Creme Brulee with some bread or another.... Had a tiny bite of the creme brulee with berries didn't like it =\

The most awesome dessert ever. This is better than waffles at Max Brenner or all those Adriano Zumbo cakes.... 100% Pure Pleasure. Omg this was so awesome it wasn't overwelmingly sweet or bitter. So perfect!! but at almost $16 it burns a hole in the wallet.

Inside chocolate and panna cotta goodness

Are those GOLD Flakes??? I think I just increased my overall body value by a few $$!

My chocolate and banana drink that also cost a lot I think over $10 I think it was $15 =\ Max Brenner ones are better though!

I was so stuffed after this! I realise now how much we spent that day.. but my boy paid for a large portion of it =) I only spent about $50 all day XD

Doing long divisions on a napkin... This all started with me saying what if a kid asks me to do long division with decimal points at James An cuz I dunno how to anymore! We FAIL at maths... even my boy who I will now deem WAS good at maths could not divide T_T

The is the problem with calculators!! (please don't ever faze them out >.>)

In the bathroom of Guylian Cafe.

After looking at S's camera I realised they did not have enough happy couple photos so I forced them against the beautiful Australian sky to take photos of Darling Harbour from an unglamorous angle XD which made S very upset cuz she doesn't like taking photos XD (unless they're with me =P?) Notice severe height difference XD

Everyone say: Awwww

We stayed in Darling harbour a little more cuz I was plucking out the boy's white hair to throw into the ocean cuz I made up a legend that it will help him keep his full head of hair when he gets old XDDDDD

Went to star city after that where my boy won like $46 T_T and I won the $2 I put into the machine to play pokies... damn I am unlucky... With the money he got S a drink while N went to play poker and lost $100 -.- Here you can see the effects of alcohol on S's skin colour compared to mine in the Star City toilets XD I REALLY wanted to take a photo of the fishies in the cylindrical fish tank and the casino in all it's glory but everyone kept telling me not to incase they kicked us out T_T. There are so many asians at the poker machines seriously....

After losing the $100 we decided Star city wasn't up our alley (we spent the free $10 credit for poket machines already XD) and went to grab a quick bite as S wanted to go back to the hotel in time to watch Masterchef. We weren't really hungry after the massive meat, beer and dessert so chose a KFC snackbox.

Then hometime =(

Had so much fun guys =)

Sigh and now another week of work then back to uni! I dunno whether to say yay about that or not.... I've been sleeping too late for work so today had a bad headache all morning...

We've started to recruit new staff and this new chick omg she put chicken salt on salad... cracked me up XDD

Oh asian guy said he had a present for me for Friday for my last day.... hmmmm.... am I suppose to/allowed/should I accept whatever it may be??? Are there things I can/can not accept?? Or should I just not accept at all???

My boy seems to advocate me leading guys on cuz he says I should the present T_T. What if I have been mistaken and this is genuine friendly kindness and he gives me something nice and I say "sorry i have a bf" and he gives me a funny look cuz that wasn't his intention at all! How embarrassing would that be! Oh dilemma!

Oh welcome back Kebu!!

I missed you!

Love M.

Not Sure About Saturday Though

Just another morning at work.

Suit: Can I get a black coffee thanks.

Me: Would you like a short or long black?

Suit: I'm from Vegas, I don't know what that means.

I'm guessing people from Vegas don't drink much coffee. It's probably not me, because Americans around here sure don't like/drink coffee. I don't expect them to know what a macchiato is; at least it makes life simpler for me.

Whereas I get blue-collared workers in Martin Place asking for things like fried dim sims (wtf?!).

I didn't go to Din Tai Fung. James had to go to Uni for something and we were late, so it was already closed. No photos (again). Maybe next week ne?

Every Saturday, Mother uses the long drive home to 'teach' me life skills, in particular work and men. I already know that she is biased, and does it to mostly piss the Father off by teaching me to be everything he does not like in a daughter.

And every Saturday, I get the same (but interesting nonetheless) lecture.

Make sure you find a rich husband who isn't stingy.
Make lots of money.
Be successful and take care of yourself.
Don't have kids. Ever.
If you have kids, don't give up your job. Get a nanny.
Do not marry if you can help it.
If you marry, marry someone who makes more money than you and is smarter than you.
Love is not as important as money.

And as per usual, I agree for most part. It's not as if I haven't thought of it before. Father keeps telling her off; she's raising me poorly and teaching me stupid things that will ruin my life. He still thinks I am too young to understand.

Forgive me, Father, but I am well aware of what makes this world go around. I have for a few years already.

Mother says I am not being a gold-digger - I am merely looking out for number one. She is teaching me how to defend myself and not be hurt by men. Thank you, Mother, but I am quite adept at it myself. It's depressing to be reminded of women's inferiority, though.

Which is why I gave up feminism. Women will always be beneath men, and this equality shit will never happen so long as women are giving birth. Ah I await the day men can give birth too, then we'll talk again Mother.

Another depressing thing is that the dream to be Super Mum is more further away than before. I can either be a rich and successful business woman with no love life or family, or be a stay-at-home wife with a rich husband and be bored/stressed out of my wits. I still haven't decided which I want to be yet.

The former is more tempting since I'm already in Uni, and working ANY job is easier than raising kids. Really. And going through peak periods at work is so much easier than say, child birth.

But the main point my Mother is trying to stress is to never, ever let a man bring me down.

I question whether my Mother is actually Chinese. But then again, she's a Guangdong woman (the most coniving, sly, manipulative and selfish Asian women). Many of these women have screwed over men for money or citizenship. My uncle Michael, our ex-chef Eric and the Father included.

So I'm not allowed to marry a poor guy no matter how much I claim to 'love' him, can't marry someone with lower IQ because I'll just be frustrated with having to dumb myself down all the time (not to mention smart women can't get husbands), and to not have kids unless the pre-requisites (money, intelligence and a good amount of love/care) are met. Otherwise, I'll be stuck in an unhappy marriage like her and fighting over financial difficulty every single day.

Well, looks like 90% of the male population are fucked :D

My Mother is the most bitter, scorned woman, ever.

No wonder Daddy says I should stop listening to her. (But it was you who scorned her in the first place, Daddy).

Too much information.

But hey, this is a blog that I co-created. I need to rant.

I Don't Paint Anymore

I downloaded The Notebook to watch again.

I cried. Again.

It's so sad, I swear it's got to be one of the greatest love stories of all time. Too bad the novel by Nicholas Sparks isn't as good - it sounds so emo. This is one occasion where the film is better than the book.

.~ ***** ~.

I recently read a post on my irregular blogroll concerning jobs.

If there were no repercussions, security and finance didn't matter, what would you be? What would you do?

The blogger said she would be a journalist. She would expose The Truth about problems in the world such as third world struggles, child abuse, etc.

I scoffed.

Which was a natural reaction, coming from me, because I am so grounded into the demands of society that I can't help but always have a conscious finger on earthly (or shall I say societal and cultural?) boundaries.

I would be an artist.

I would both sing and paint, both meanings of the word "artist". I would be a creator of beautiful things.

The canvas I bought weeks ago is still blank. I promise I will paint during my mid-semester break. I owe it to myself. I owe it to my soul. I owe it to the person I was when I was 10, and all I wanted to do was create and revel in praise, admiration.

Yes, I would be a composer. I would sing neo-opera/symphonic at the top of my voice, just because I can and I love it.

It took me pretty long to realise my "true calling". Something that disregards rationalisation - and we all well know how rational and realistic I can be. I only discovered it moments ago; I was walking home with Viletta on and found myself singing on the street. I reached Nobody's Home by Avril Lavigne (after a string of Lavigne songs) and found I could put my voice in the words.

I found myself on the verge of crying because of a song.

And I loved that feeling.

I will paint. I will sing.

But lets be reasonable here.

(For those who have never watched the movie, you probably don't understand the double meaning in the post title.)

Innocent Eyes

I've broken the 100th post to make this 101.

It was supposed to feature many photos and pictures taken over the week, however I am not inspired to blog about things that cheerful. Grongbit has shifted back into a darker sphere.

The inner goth in me screams for vengeance.

I thought I was fine. In fact, I felt fine. The day was cold and dreary, but with Spring right around the corner the weather was warm and comfortable. I was actually able to get up off the bed because I didn't feel cold.

I felt like skipping on the way to the train station for gym. Except my bag was heavy.

I was feeling good.

I treated Porkie to Easyway, and paid instead of getting free drinks from Weechi.

It was a good day.

But things are never well, and aren't well if all you've done is just push your problems under the table. Sooner or later, you'll have to vacuum the floor and reveal the dirt beneath.

And you'll be forced to see it again.

And you'll remember.

You'll remember that nothing is working. You'll remember that you still don't know what you want out of life. You'll remember that you aren't suited to things you have to want.

You see that the person in your clothes is not the person looking back at you in the mirror.

Who is she?

And what does she want?

I know what she wants. What I want is different.

But what if she is you?

What do you want now?

What do you want to do now?

And everything comes spilling out in their thousands.

And all your problems come rushing back.

And you remember that you're back to square one.

And I am lost without his words.

Why does it feel like they have no place to put me in my place?

Why are people still intimidated by me?

Tough Times

Listening to: Stratosphere - t.Komine and Orange feat. Miku
Reading: Emma - Jane Austen
Current obsession: Bags.

I've been up 26hrs. Or something. I can't count right now. I just have a few things to say before I head off to bed.

Was walking behind this office lady wearing really high heels at Wynyard station. She was wearing a knee length pencil skirt, but the slit at the back was practically all the way up to her privates, on the verge of displaying them to the whole world. Imagine, I was walking behind her on the stairs. I was scoffing at the absurdity of such clothing when some man comes up from behind and puts his arm around the lady and hits on her.

I can't hear what he says, but then she turns around and unabashedly says "I'm sorry I already have a boyfriend, but thankyou so much for the offer." in which the man then replies "No worries, blah blah insert farewell here." and walks off.

T__________________T

And I think to myself:

"Where can I get one of them skirts?"

>_>

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I'm tired, but on a different but not so different note, he is leaving on the 4th for good. I'm shocked, because I never expected it to be so soon. I thought it would be at least a few months; relocating is not a light issue at all. But lo and behold, he's going in just over a week and I still haven't said anything.

I'm so chicken shit.

I'm the only other person besides his family (who obviously have to be told) and his roommates (who also have to be told) who knows he is leaving. I feel rather honoured.

Then again, he's a dumbass and totally not worth my time.

I don't know how I should feel. I feel sad, but not sad enough. I'm going to miss him.

Maybe.

I don't know.

I said three words.
You said you know.
But I don't think you really do.

Tough times. Back to uni next week, and begin life as an adult. Jin has already made the plunge, and I should too.

Next to blog about when I'm bothered, proof that I am just as insane as B and a big (hopefully) surprise for everyone.

I can't believe my god-uncle's sister's English name is Alison!

And I can't believe I only got credits for first semester! SO disappointed.

The Week Builds Up

So tired, I'm not listening to anything except C-Pop, not reading and I want sleep.

I haven't blogged due to fatigue. Last week, work was tiring. I had to be up and working at 4:25am for three days. It is hell. I meant to do an editorial *coughfeaturearticlecough* but I just felt uninspired after a few days so I dropped it. I have other chances to display my sound intelligence and striking wit ;)

Following the path of career, today was my first day working. I got offered a chance to gain work experience in the media field - how exciting and totally my thing. I thought I would spend my first day being an Office Lady, paperwork, cheap coffee and seating my ass at a computer all day typing.

Oh.

How wrong, how wrong.

Instead, I was sent to the new shopping centre at Chinatown to help out at a major Chinese karaoke competition with the production staff as part of the show's public relations. If anyone has satellite, you might see me on TVBA. Seriously. I'm the girl handing the judges the folders.

I was given a 'uniform' and a badge thing - think Eminence, M. My name was on the staff list, as an administration assistant. I was on 'standby' most of the time though xD I never knew I'd be involved with something this significant.

FREE FOOD, DRINKS AND KARAOKE SESSIONS!!

I stayed in the Green Room as the guard during the competition. In the end, I was singing karaoke with co-workers and superiors. It was 8:30pm by then and I'm really sorry I couldn't make it to Minglez's birthday. I wasn't released until 9, and it would've been 10 by the time I arrived at Parra. I was the youngest there, felt so left out because of that and everyone spoke fluent Cantonese D: Everyone seemed to be from Hong Kong, including my new friend, a 23 year old college graduate called Nirvana. It was okay. They all knew how to speak decent, if not better English.

I like this job!

The people are so friendly and lax. If I'm thirsty and want a drink, my superior will order one delivered to the Green Room for me. MUAHAHA. Did I mention food and drinks were free? If I was bored, I was allowed to take a mic and sing until the next time I'm needed. No wonder I'm not getting paid!

Other than the idle perks to this 'job', developing contacts is the most valuable thing an ambitious person can have. I consorted with television producers and advertising agents. I talked to Cameron, a graphics artist from TVBA who studied digital media at UNSW. Hint hint, B! I got an offer of a part time job with someone or another. I'm getting offered jobs that I don't even know the title to.

I go back on Thursday and Sunday for 2nd and 3rd rounds :)

Contacts.

Jin may be socially well connected, but I have industry!

*head inflates to match high and mighty ego*

I shouldn't be so proud of myself. Afterall, I placed career over social life. Is this a foreshadowing of years to come?

I couldn't leave early, so I stayed to be treated to dinner. The last time I ate was at 2-3pm.

The restaurant was called Port Orient, and it had succulent roast duck.
Let me begin the menu:

Fried rice with prawn, scallops, chives and crab roe. Not quite your typical fried rice.

Beef cubes in a sweet, dark sauce with wasabi mayonnaise dip. Best thing ever. The meat was tender, the sauce was sweet and savory at the same time. The dip was mayonnaise with a tiny hint of wasabi, but it wasn't hot at all. It was just right.

Honey and black pepper marinated pork chops with button mushrooms. Think of fried pork chops you get at Asian places, imagine it dripping with honey with a sliver of peppery-ness. Outside was crunchy, inside was soft and easy to bite. Yum. My second favourite dish.

Roast duck. Your normal roast duck, only the meat was so juicy. I may be exaggerating =p

Assorted mushrooms and green leafies in oyster sauce, I think. I love mushroom!

Tofu bag stuffed with vegetables. It was literally a tofu bag. A sack made of tofu skin, tied with something green. It looked so cool. Everyone thought it was abalone.

Normal stir fried beans and peas, the long round Asian ones and the flat, fat ones. Mixed with beef mince.

Do I hear sighs?

I forgot to mention the waterfront and Darling Harbour skyline night view from the window right in front of me.

D:

Expensive.

I'm kicking myself for not bringing my camera.

I forgot what I wanted to talk about now...

Oh well. So that was my day. I start at 10am tomorrow at the office, with proper paperwork this time. I got home at 11pm tonight.

I can take next week off to go on the ski trip.

I remember now. I got home and saw one of my massive envelopes with one of my assignments back.

What's the best way to end such an eventful day?

Coming home to a Distinction (80) in Writing as Communication.

~~~
